BIO
Holly Gaboriault is an author, illustrator, and designer who has woven words and images into her books, puppets and paintings. Graduating from Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in Illustration, archeology and history has always been a strong influence her work. Stories from different cultures, their fashion rituals, and music create new worlds to explore, including a study in wayang Javanese rod puppetry and African masks.
As a designer, she has designed for both theater and ballet, window displays and graphic and textile design. She looking to publish her first childrens book and continues creating a series of collage books, exploring themes ranging from Victorian Etiquette to surrealist fashion French paper dolls.
My work is about telling stories, creating new folktales and new worlds. Archeology has been my first passion and I find inspiration in the traditions and folklore from different cultures. Whether drawing, painting, mask and puppet making, one thing always affects another and triggers something new. My work is a mixture of faith, luck, humor and maybe coincidence.
Hollys work is held in several private collections and has exhibited in New England galleries and museums, including the Newport Art Museum, the Providence Art Club, and AS220. When she is not creating work, she is working with several non-profit art organizations, curating exhibitions and bringing artists in the community together. She is currently working on a new series of works on paper.
Her Providence studio is shared with her partners in crime, both furry and human, and steaming cups of mango tea.
